Abstract

Previous research results reported that many senior high schools were not ready to implement the school Literacy Movement (SLM). This is interesting to use as an object for further research. This SLM research was carried out at SMA Al Umanaa Boarding School Sukabumi West Java as a case study, with the aim of investigating the implementation of SLM at the SMA Al Umanaa Boarding School: whether they were ready to implement it and how the School implements it. A qualitative descriptive approach was used. This research uses case study method, observation, interview and document techniques. Data collection uses notetaking and recording techniques. Data was obtained from research respondents, namely school principals, literacy teams, teachers and librarian and sources from observations and documents of school literacy activities. The data was analyzed using Fred R. David’s Strategic Management Theory. The results of this study indicate that SLM was successfully implemented. Al Umanaa Foundation developed a planning and policy system to facilitate the implementation of SLM for SMA Al Umanaa Boarding School. The Al Umanaa Foundation seeks to be able to finance its own funding needs for the implementation of SLM through entrepreneurial efforts in cultivating vegetables and melons, producing and marketing smoked catfish, shredded catfish, crackers made from catfish under the Fish n Kids brand, and with government institutions and private companies and non-binding to obtain financial assistance and collaborate with literacy organizations or institutions outside of schools such as public libraries and non-profit organizations that care about literacy.
