Abstract

This article explores why children often struggle to concentrate and stay engaged in learning. Drawing on insights from neuroscience and developmental psychology, it explains how the ongoing development of the prefrontal cortex affects attention, self-control, and learning abilities. It also highlights children’s natural curiosity and their tendency to explore the world around them, which is often misunderstood as distraction. In addition, the article examines the impact of today’s highly stimulating digital environment on attention and motivation. The role of task design and the difference between external and internal motivation are also discussed. The article concludes that learning difficulties are not caused by laziness, but are linked to developmental processes and environmental influences. It emphasizes the importance of adapting learning approaches to better meet children’s needs.
